WSVN--On today's room for improvement we're helping a newlywed couple spice things up a bit in their bland master bedroom, so that the romance continues in their first home.
Martin: "Room for improvement, Hi, Wendy! Congrats on your marriage and your first home together."
Ok Wendy so how long have you been married?"
Wendy: "It's gonna be two years."
Martin: "This is your first home together correct? So tell me about the bedroom, why don't you like it right now as it is."
Wendy: "Pretty boring it's bland, it doesn't really do anything for me."
The problem with the bedroom right now is that there is no contrast between the furniture and the yellow walls. Introducing passionate reds and rich browns will help give us that wow factor we are looking for."
Design Direction
First up let's re-arrange the furniture. By placing the bed underneath the window it's gonna make it a focal point immadiately upon entering the room. The second thing it's gonna do is going to separate this massive pieces from being next to each other.
Tool Tip
Don't strain your bag moving heavy furniture pieces, invest in this furniture gliders because they really work.
I'm not a big fan of mirrors attached to dressers, it was a bit overwhelming in this small space by actually removing it, it makes the room much bigger.
Many times homeowners coordinate everything in a room around two colors to play it safe, but always consider adding a third color because it's gonna make the room really pop.
Now with the bed already made you can see our accent color which is the rich red, really working in the room.
Martin's Magic
Two ottomans placed together not only provides a nice bench for you to sit on, but it also elongates the look of the bed.
Here we go, now we bring more color to this side of the room and we can hide the bathroom whenever we want. Kind of creates a dressing area back here too.
This romantic photo taken during their holiday is the final touch in the room.
Amazing what some re-arranging, new bed linens and accessories can do to renew a space and make you feel good about your home! So just remix what you have and you'll get a brand new look for 2006. I'll see you guys next week.
Before the master bedroom looked really plain. Now you can't help but fall in love in the room from the moment you lay eyes on it. I say that's a recipe for romance, under twelve-hundred dollars - $1,179.
