Residents displaced after electrical fire

MIAMI (WSVN) -- About 300 residents have been displaced after fire crews responded to a high-rise fire.
At around 3 p.m. Friday, Miami Police and Miami Fire Rescue responded to a fire in a high rise located at 111 NE Second Ave. Crews went floor by floor and escorted residents in to gather their belongings after an electrical fire occurred, which caused them to shut the power off to the entire building.
Many residents had no place to go as a result of being forced out of the high rise, because they could not afford to stay in a hotel for the weekend.
According to Miami Fire Rescue, the residents will be out until Monday. "I'm not sure what type of electrical issue we have here, but this could be a day or several days before anybody gets back in and this building gets any power," Miami Fire Rescue Lieutenant Ignatius Carroll said.
The fire marshal has deemed the structure unsafe.
