SCHOOLS
- All Broward County Public Schools and offices will be reopen Thursday, August 31, 2006, following passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. All District students and employees should report to their respective schools and work sites, as scheduled.
- Monroe County teachers and staff are to report to schools Wednesday morning, but students will not resume classes until Thursday.
- Miami Dade College is closed today. Students and employees are asked to call the MDC Hotline at (305) 237-7500 for regular updates about Miami Dade College operations.
- Florida Memorial University will be open Thursday.
- All ATI Technical and College Schools morning classes will be cancelled Wednesday Aug. 30. All evening classes will resume as normal.
- All offices at Johnson & Wales University will reopen Thursday, August 31 for regular business hours following Tropical Storm Ernesto.
TRANSPORTATION
- Effective at noon Wednesday, August 30, 2006, tolls will be reinstated on all MDX roadways. MDX roadways include State Road 836 (the Dolphin Expressway), State Road 112 (the Airport Expressway), State Road 874 (Don Shula Expressway), State Road 878 (Snapper Creek Expressway), and State Road 924 (Gratigny Expressway).
- All tolls on Florida's Turnpike, the Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869) and Alligator Alley (I-75) will be reinstated at 6 a.m. EDT, Thursday, August 31, 2006
- The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority anticipates resuming normal Tri-Rail operations tomorrow, Thursday, August 31. Tri-Rail was forced to suspend operations Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30, 2006, due to the anticipated impacts of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
- Broward County Transit (BCT) will resume service at Noon on Wednesday, August 30, weather permitting. Buses will operate on their Sunday/holiday schedule. Paratransit services will also resume at Noon on Wednesday. Tri-Rail trains will not be operating on Wednesday. Regular Tri-Rail passenger service is expected to resume service on Thursday morning, August 31.
- Miami-Dade transit buses and MetroRail has already resumed its normal schedule.
- Miami International Airport is open for normal operations but travellers should confirm with their carriers about any cancellations and delays.
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will resume normal operations at 10 a.m. Travellers should confirm with their carriers about any cancellations and delays.
- Monroe County Airports Director Peter Horton anticipates both Key West International and Florida Keys Marathon Airports should reopen sometime Wednesday.
- Miami Beach parking services will return to normal operations at noon Wednesday. Residents that have stored their vehicles during the storm must remove them by noon to avoid charges.
- Key West City bus service began this morning at 8 a.m., with routes coming on line as drivers were contacted to begin service. All city routes are now in service and will operate regularly scheduled hours. Lower Keys Shuttle bus routes, Key West to Marathon, will reconvene at 11:05 a.m. and 11:22 a.m. this morning as scheduled in either direction and will continue with regularly scheduled service. All three city parking lots will be operational and manned no later than noon today.
HOSPITALS
- Aventura Hospital and Medical Center sustained no damage during tropical storm, Ernesto and is fully-operational. For more information, please call 305-682-7000.
- Holy Cross Hospital, including the Emergency Department, is fully operational today, Wednesday, August 30, with the exception of Outpatient Services and the Holy Cross Medical Group physician offices.
- Palmetto General Hospital and Hialeah Hospital are re-opened on Wednesday. All employees should return to work as scheduled.
- North Ridge Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale reports the hospital is open and fully operational and accepting all patients. Employees should report to work as normally scheduled. The Employee Emergency Hotline number is 954-202-INFO (4636).
- The Miami VA Medical Center will be open to serve veterans in need of medical care. All Miami VA Healthcare System Outpatient Clinics will be open Wednesday, August 30 to continue to serve our veterans. For questions or concerns, call 1-877-741-3400.
- The Broward County Health Department's administrative offices and all Health Centers will remain closed today public health assessments will be done as quickly as possible. All Health Department employees should contact their supervisors for priority assignments. Broward County Health Department employees and clients are advised to stay tuned to media reports for information on when health center services and offices will reopen. - Mariner's Hospital, Fisherman's Hospital and Lower Keys Medical Center are all open.
- The Emergency Room at Boca Raton Community Hospital will remain open during the storm for true emergencies only. One Family Place will remain open for women in labor.
- Emergency rooms at Baptist, Baptist Children's, South Miami, Homestead, Doctors and Mariners Hospital are open. Baptist Health Urgent Care Centers will reopen as soon as possible on Wednesday, August 30.
- South Florida Spine Clinic in Fort Lauderdale will be open Wednesday.
- Cleveland Clinic Florida's medical offices, located on the Weston campus, and the Cleveland Clinic Florida Weston Family Health Center will reopen on Wednesday, August 30, at noon.
- Westside Regional Medical Center's Admitting Entrance will re-open at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Main Entrance will re-open at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
- Plantation General Hospital's main entrance will re-open at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
- Memorial Hospital West Fitness & Rehabilitation Center, 703 N. Flamingo Rd, Pembroke Pines will open at noon on Wednesday, August 30.
- Mount Sinai Medical Center will resume a normal schedule Wednesday morning. All employees should contact their managers.
- The North Broward Hospital District is preparing to resume normal business operations following Ernesto's departure from South Florida. A number of the Ambulatory health centers will be open by 9 a.m. on Wednesday: the Comprehensive Care Center, the Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center, the Specialty Care Center - Seventh Avenue Family Health Center, Clinicas de las Americas and the Healthcare for the Homeless (Little House).
- Jackson Memorial Hospital's ambulatory procedures, including surgeries, are back to regular hours on Wednesday. Employees are to report back to work on Wednesday, anyone who needs to monitor 305-585-8000.
- All of Mercy Hospital is fully operational. The emergency room is open and all Mercy Hospital elective surgeries and procedures are scheduled to resume as planned tomorrow, Wednesday. Patients are encouraged to call to confirm appointments. All outpatient services, procedures and diagnostic tests at the Mercy Outpatient Center, Bayside Surgical Center and the Arrhythmia Syncope Center are scheduled to resume tomorrow, Wednesday. Patients are encouraged to call to confirm appointments.
- Mercy Hospital's Outpatient Rehabilitation Therapy resumes operation tomorrow, Wednesday. Patients with appointments for are asked to call (305) 285-2966 to confirm. Women who are scheduled to have their babies at Mercy Hospital and are 37 weeks and over are advised to contact their physician for instructions. During recovery, patients are encouraged to call 305-854-4400 to confirm outpatient appointments scheduled for the remainder of the week.
- Mercy Hospital employees are encouraged to check the Employee Status Hotline (305) 285-2707 for updates on return to work status and assignments. Normal business operations and staffing schedules are expected to resume at 7:00 a.m.
- The Miami Children's Hospital's regularly scheduled surgeries are to proceed as normal. The MCH Dan Marino Center and the MCH Rehabilitation Services in Miami Lakes are now open. The Miami Children's Hospital South Dade Center and Urgent Care Center have also reopened.
GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS AND SERVICES
- The Post Office has resumed operations and is operating on a regular schedule. Local Post Offices from Pompano Beach to Key West will open this morning. There will be regular mail delivery, including Express Mail and Priority Mail on Wednesday.
- The City of Hialeah is up and running back on schedule. All City employees are asked to return to work for their regular shifts.
- Key West City Manager Julio Avael said all Key West offices will reopen Wednesday and said most if not all businesses, including lodging entities would reopen as well. City of Marathon and Islamorada offices are scheduled to reopen Wednesday.
- Pan Am Horizons Federal Credit Union will reopen all branch offices at noon on Wednesday.
- All of Bank Atlantic's 81 stores will be open regular hours (7:30 AM - 8:00 PM) on Wednesday.
- Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections will be returning to normal operations as of midnight Wednesday for all personel
- City of Miami Beach government offices will reopen Wednesday. Miami Beach employees are to report to work at their regularly scheduled time.
- All City offices and services in Lauderdale Lakes are currently operating on a normal schedule.
- Fort Lauderdale City Hall and all Fort Lauderdale governement offices will be open Tuesday.
PARKS, ATTRACTIONS, STORES AND MALLS
- All Publix Super Markets locations have re-opened on full power. There is only one exception to the 240 stores in the Miami Division (Key West to Sebastian): One store is currently open on partial power (limited lighting and cooling) located at 850 N. Miami Beach Blvd., North Miami Beach.
- Southland Mall will resume regular business hours of 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
- Sawgrass Mills re-opening after Tropical Storm Ernesto for regular mall business hours.
- Miami Seaquarium will re-open on Wednesday.
- The entertainment centers of Beach Place, located on Fort Lauderdale Beach, and CocoWalk, located in Coconut Grove remain open.
- BankAtlantic branches are open.
- Pan Am Horizons Federal Credit Union will reopen all branch offices at noon on Wednesday.
- Dania Jai-Alai will be open.
- MetroZoo remains open until a hurricane warning is issued.
- Miami Children's Museum will open to the general public at 10 a.m. Wednesday for a full day of fun and activities.
- The Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale will open today at 10 a.m.
- Pembroke Lakes Mall, located at 11401 Pines Blvd, will be reopening at their normal hours Wednesday at 10 a.m. For further questions please contact 954 463 3520
- Miami Beach Parks and Recreation will offer complimentary childcare services beginning at 12 noon Wednesday for Miami Beach residents' and City employees' school-aged children at the following locations:
- Scott Rakow Youth Center, 2700 Sheridan Avenue
- North Shore Youth Center, 501 72 Street
- PAL at Flamingo Park, 999 11 Street
- The entertainment centers of Beach Place, located on Fort Lauderdale Beach, and CocoWalk, located in Coconut Grove are open.
OTHER OPENINGS
- Pompano Park Racing will re-open for simulcasting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.
- Sidewalk cafes will open no sooner than 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
