Valuable piece of equipment stolen from a clinic
HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Thieves broke into a health clinic and left with an important piece of equipment used for pregnant women.
Robbers stole a $35,000 ultrasound machine from a clinic where pregnant women go to get counseling when they have nowhere else. "Even if it's just a warm voice, someone who is going to be here to listen to them," said Jeanne Pernia, Center Director.
The clinic was only opened for four days when the theft occurred. The thieves realized two days later they forgot the most important piece, so they went back. Without the machine, workers are unable to help women.
Doctors are worried about where and how the stolen machine is going to be used. "It's unethical," said Dr. Gene Burkett from Jackson Memorial Hospital. "I don't know, it depends on who is operating. It's unethical, and certainly it's a major crime."
Hialeah Police are investigating this crime. Detectives found blood on the curtain that covered the window, which the thieves broke into.
If you have any information about the theft of this expensive piece of medical equipment please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
